Stopwork (Geneva stop)

A star-and-finger mechanism limiting the usable turns of the mainspring barrel.

Explanation

By preventing the spring from being fully wound or fully run down, stopwork confines operation to the coil's more uniform middle turns, improving isochronism at the cost of total power reserve.
