Going barrel

A mainspring barrel that drives the train directly, without a fusee.

Explanation

The going barrel replaced the fusee in most watchmaking after Lépine's reforms, trading perfect torque equalisation for a thinner, simpler movement. Accuracy losses from spring unwinding are instead addressed through hairspring geometry and, in adjusted grades, careful isochronism work.
