Maltese cross
The cross-shaped stopwork finger seen on high-grade Geneva barrels.
Explanation
A four-armed steel piece with one blind slot, mounted on the barrel or its cover, which engages a finger on the barrel arbor and blocks further winding after a set number of turns. Its presence is a workmanship indicator rather than proof of any particular maker.
