Mainspring

The coiled spring that stores energy to drive the train.

Explanation

Housed in a barrel, either going (driving the train directly) or fusee-mediated. 'Set' springs that have lost their curve reduce amplitude and power reserve; modern alloy replacements are usually preferable to reusing fatigued carbon-steel springs.
