Mainspring bridle (slipping spring)

The bridle is the spring or stud arrangement inside a going barrel that lets the mainspring's outer end slip when fully wound — essential in automatic watches, where the rotor would otherwise overwind and break the spring. Slipping bridle grease controls the slip torque; wrong grease makes an automatic slip too early (poor reserve) or not at all (damage).
