Object description

Case and Dial Construction

The watch features a tonneau-shaped platinum case measuring 41 mm in diameter, characterized by a wide concave round bezel and polished lugs. The case-band is distinctively decorated with an engraved pattern in both relief and recess. A small diamond, weighing 0.02 ct, is set into the case between the lugs at the 6 o'clock position. The crown is signed with the Patek Philippe 'Calatrava' cross motif, and the case-back is fitted with a snap-on sapphire crystal.

The dial is finished in a golden brown, referred to as “brun doré,” and features radial applied indexes made of 18K white gold. Complication indicators are arranged via apertures rather than traditional hands, providing displays for the day of the week, date, month, moon phases, leap-year cycle, and an AM-PM indicator. A subsidiary seconds dial is located at the 6 o'clock position.

Movement and Complications

The movement, Caliber RTO 27 PS QI, comprises 549 individual components and operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour. It integrates a minute-repeater system that functions via two hammers striking two steel gongs, controlled by a slide located on the case-band at 9 o'clock. The movement is also equipped with a one-minute tourbillon regulator, which is visible through the case-back.

A key feature of the watch is the instantaneous perpetual calendar mechanism, which is designed to change all calendar displays precisely at midnight. The movement is adjusted for isochronism, heat, cold, and six positions, and holds the Patek Philippe Seal. The construction includes a central wheel made of 14K gold, which features a design inspired by traditional watchmaking tools.

Evidence for this section
  • “Minute-repeater by two hammers on two steel gongs (activated by the slide located on the case-band at 9 o’clock)”
