Remontoire

A secondary spring or weight, rewound at intervals, that delivers uniform torque to the escapement.

Explanation

By decoupling the escapement from the full run of the mainspring, a remontoire evens out torque variation across the power reserve, at the cost of mechanical complexity. It appears chiefly in precision clocks and a small number of high-grade watches and chronometers.
