Crutch

The lever connecting a clock escapement to the pendulum.

Explanation

The crutch transmits impulse from the anchor or deadbeat escapement to the pendulum and picks up the pendulum's swing to unlock the escape wheel. Its fork or pin engagement with the pendulum rod must have minimal side shake for good timekeeping.
