Dead-beat escapement

A clock escapement, credited to George Graham, with no recoil of the escape wheel.

Explanation

Unlike the recoil anchor, the dead-beat's locking faces are concentric with the escape wheel's centre, so the wheel simply stops rather than backing up during locking. This improves precision-pendulum accuracy and is standard in regulators.
