Repoussé

Repoussé is relief decoration raised by hammering and punching the metal from the reverse side, then detailing from the front (chasing). Elaborate repoussé outer cases — classical scenes on pair-case watches — were a speciality of 18th-century English and Continental casemakers. The thin raised work dents easily and is often worn smooth on high points.
