Savonnette

A hunter-case layout with the winding crown at three relative to the dial.

Explanation

In a savonnette the seconds sub-dial sits at right angles to the crown, so the watch reads correctly when the cover opens in the hand. Movements are made specifically as savonnette or Lépine; swapping one into the wrong case leaves hands and crown misaligned — a quick re-casing check.
