Electronic Timekeeping

Electric balances, tuning forks, quartz crystals and digital displays: different systems, documented through exact surviving museum objects.

From the battery to the indication

Power source, oscillator and display are separate facts. A battery does not make every watch quartz, and quartz does not require a digital display. A collection photograph shows an object’s appearance, not its present accuracy or hidden condition.

The Smithsonian Astron has an original module with a reproduction case and band. The Pulsar’s unlit display is not evidence of a fault. These distinctions remain attached to the individual records.
