Field-effect LCD

A low-power liquid-crystal display technology used in digital watches.

Explanation

Seiko Museum identifies a field-effect LCD in the 1973 06LC six-digit digital quartz watch and explains its visibility and low-power advantage over earlier display approaches. LCD is the indication technology, not the oscillator. A field-effect display therefore belongs in a display field separate from quartz timekeeping. Do not assign that technology to another early digital watch without a model-specific reference, and do not claim a source’s historical example is currently running.
