Safety roller

A disc on the balance staff, notched to work with a guard pin, preventing the pallet fork from moving out of position.

Explanation

Together with the guard pin and horns of the fork, the safety roller is part of the lever escapement's characteristic safety action, distinguishing it from frictional-rest escapements that have none.
