Micro-rotor

A miniature winding rotor set into the plane of the movement rather than above it.

Explanation

Introduced commercially in the late 1950s, a micro-rotor allows a thinner overall movement than a full-size rotor mounted on top of the going train, at some cost in winding efficiency.
