Jewels

Hard synthetic or natural stone bearings reducing pivot friction and wear.

Explanation

Hole jewels, cap (end-stone) jewels, pallet stones and the impulse jewel all count toward the advertised jewel count. A high count does not by itself denote quality: some movements carried decorative or non-functional jewels for marketing purposes.
