Cuvette (dust cover)

An inner metal cover, hinged or snap-fitted, protecting the movement inside the case back.

Explanation

The cuvette is the inner metal dust cover of a pocket watch, between the case back and the movement, often engraved with the maker's name, medals and patent claims. Those engravings are useful evidence but are also frequently faked or exaggerated ('chronometer' claims on ordinary watches are common), so they should be read critically.
