Cuvette (dust cover)

An inner metal cover, hinged or snap-fitted, protecting the movement inside the case back.

Explanation

Common on English and Swiss watches, cuvettes were sometimes engraved with presentation inscriptions or a secondary serial number, and their removal is often the first step in identifying a movement.
