Case back
The rear cover of a watch case, either snap-fitted, screwed or hinged.
Explanation
The case back closes the rear of the case: snap-on, screw-down, hinged or (on many modern watches) a glazed display back. Inside it may carry hallmarks, case-maker marks, serial numbers and generations of watchmakers' scratched service marks — a rich source of evidence. Forcing a screw back or prising a snap back at the wrong point causes classic damage.
