Chapter ring

The ring of hour numerals ('chapters') on a dial, sometimes a separate applied piece.

Explanation

On silvered and engraved clock and watch dials the chapter ring often exists as a distinct component pinned or screwed to the dial plate, allowing separate engraving and finishing from the field. Its style and numeral form assist dating.
