Enamel dial

A dial made by fusing powdered glass to a metal disc, giving a hard, glossy, light-fast surface.

Explanation

Vitreous enamel resists fading and yellowing far better than painted dials but is brittle and prone to hairline cracking and chipping, especially around the centre arbor and edge, from shock or careless handling.
