Object description

Case and Dial

The wristwatch is housed in a polished round case constructed of platinum. The design includes quick-set adjustment buttons positioned on the case band at the 2, 4, 8, and 10 o'clock positions. A distinguishing feature of the case is a single diamond set between the lugs at the 6 o'clock position. The reverse of the case features a screw-down exhibition back equipped with a magnifying element to view the movement.

The dial is finished in salmon pink and features applied black baton hour markers, with Arabic numerals used for the quarters. Time is indicated via black leaf-shaped hands with luminous inserts. The layout includes a black outer minute track with luminous dots at five-minute intervals. Specific complications include subsidiary dials for day and month at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions, a date aperture located at 6 o'clock, a moon phase display positioned above the date, and a power reserve indicator at 12 o'clock.

Movement and Technology

The watch utilizes the 34-jewel Caliber 324/268 automatic movement. This movement is part of the manufacturer's Advanced Research program, which introduced technological developments including the Pulsomax escapement, reported to be the first entirely in-house escapement developed by the firm. The movement also employs the proprietary Silinvar and Spiromax balance spring components.

The integration of these specific materials and designs is documented to have increased the power reserve from 45 to 60 hours compared to previous models. The movement is fitted with a gold rotor and is stamped with the Seal of Geneva, confirming its adherence to specific finishing and construction standards. The movement number is recorded as 3900169.

Evidence for this section
  • “34-jewel Cal.324/268 automatic, Silinvar® Spiromax® balance spring, silicon Pulsomax® escape wheel, gold rotor, stamped with the Seal of Geneva, No.3900169”
  • “It features the first entirely in-house escapement for Patek Philippe known as the Pulsomax®.”

Provenance and Condition

This reference was launched in 2008 as the third project under the manufacturer's Advanced Research program. Production was limited to approximately 300 units, and it represents the first model in this series to be produced in platinum. The watch was purchased by its previous owner on March 14, 2009. It is accompanied by a Patek Philippe box, outer card, Certificate of Origin, and associated brochures.

The auction house reports that the movement runs when powered and characterizes the dial, hands, and glass as being in good condition. The case exhibits light surface scratches throughout, with several small nicks present on the bezel. The strap is described as lightly used, and the clasp shows surface scratches in some areas. It is noted that the strap is subject to CITES restrictions regarding its export from the United Kingdom.

Evidence for this section
  • “Production of the 5450 was limited to approximately 300 pieces and was the first of the Advanced Research models to be executed in platinum.”
  • “Case: Light surface scratches throughout, several small nicks to bezel”
