Movement number
The number engraved on the movement plate or bridge identifying that movement.
Explanation
The movement number is the serial engraved on the movement itself, as opposed to a case number. Manufacturers' serial lists, where they survive, date movements from these numbers — the basis of most pocket watch dating. Case and movement numbers were made by different firms and rarely match, so a mismatch is normal, not suspicious.
