Escape wheel

The last wheel of the going train, which delivers impulse to the balance or pendulum via the escapement.

Explanation

Escape wheel tooth form varies by escapement family: club teeth for the lever, ratchet teeth for the verge, and specialised forms for the chronometer and duplex escapements. Its condition and tooth count are diagnostic when identifying an unfamiliar escapement.
