Impulse pin (roller jewel)

A small jewel or pin fixed to the balance roller that engages the pallet fork's notch.

Explanation

The impulse pin carries drive from the pallet fork to the balance and back, entering and leaving the lever notch on each vibration; its fit and the accompanying safety roller together prevent the fork from setting between beats.
