Hairspring (balance spring)
The fine spiral spring that returns the balance and sets the oscillation period.
Explanation
Flat spirals give way to Breguet overcoils in higher-grade work, improving concentric development and isochronism. Alloys such as Elinvar and Nivarox reduce the temperature sensitivity of the elastic modulus.
