Grande sonnerie

A striking complication that sounds the hours and quarters automatically, unprompted, as they pass.

Explanation

Distinguished from a repeater, which strikes only on demand; grande sonnerie mechanisms are mechanically demanding and consume noticeably more power, usually requiring a larger movement or additional barrel.
