Endshake

The small permitted axial freedom of a wheel or balance between its bearings.

Explanation

Too little endshake binds and stops the watch; too much allows the wheel to tilt, changes depthing and can cause the balance to foul. Correct endshake is measured in hundredths of a millimetre and adjusted by moving jewels or bridges, not by force.
