Warning wheel

A wheel in a clock's striking train that pauses just before the hour to synchronise the strike.

Explanation

As the going train approaches the hour, a pin lifts a warning piece that halts the striking train a few minutes early; when the hour is reached, the going train releases the warning piece and striking begins precisely on time.
