Swan-neck regulator
A fine-adjustment spring shaped like a swan's neck that positions the regulator index against a locking screw.
Explanation
The swan-neck regulator positions the index with a fine screw whose pressure is opposed by a spring curved like a swan's neck, allowing very precise, stable adjustment. Associated with German watchmaking (Glashütte especially) and American railroad grades, it is both functional and decorative, and often beautifully engraved.
