Silicon hairspring

A balance spring etched from silicon, non-magnetic and largely insensitive to temperature when coated.

Explanation

Manufactured by deep reactive-ion etching rather than traditional coiling and hardening, silicon springs entered serial production in the mid-2000s and are typically given a silicon-oxide coating to reduce thermal drift.
