Rate
The daily or per-period gain or loss of a timekeeper relative to true time.
Explanation
Rate is the amount a watch or clock gains or loses per day, usually in seconds. A steady rate can be regulated out; a varying rate cannot. Rate is measured in several positions and temperatures for precision work, and chronometer certificates specify limits on mean rate and its variations.
