Sub-seconds dial

A small subsidiary dial, usually at six o'clock, showing running seconds separately from the main hands.

Explanation

Common before the mid-twentieth-century popularity of a sweep centre-seconds hand, the sub-seconds layout is a useful rough dating indicator on many movements.
