Shock protection (Incabloc)

A spring-mounted jewel bearing system allowing the balance staff to displace under impact without breaking its pivots.

Explanation

Incabloc, patented in the 1930s and widely licensed thereafter, is the best-known of several systems; the cap jewel and hole jewel are held in a sprung cage that yields momentarily under shock.
