Pin-pallet escapement
A lever escapement variant using steel pins in place of jewelled pallet stones.
Explanation
The pin-pallet (Roskopf-type) escapement replaces jewelled pallet stones with vertical steel pins in the fork. Cheap to make and tolerant of rough manufacture, it powered the mass-market dollar watches and millions of alarm clocks. It is less efficient and wears faster than a jewelled lever, but its simplicity made accurate-enough timekeeping affordable.
