Pillar plate
The main lower plate of a movement, to which pillars, the barrel and the train are fitted.
Explanation
The pillar plate is the main plate of the movement on the dial side, to which the pillars, dial and much of the motion and keyless work are fitted. In English full-plate watches it carries the pillars that support the top plate. Scratches, extra screw holes or solder marks on the pillar plate are evidence of repairs and alterations, useful in assessing originality.
