Motion work
The wheels under the dial that reduce minute-hand rotation to hour-hand rotation.
Explanation
The motion work is the small train under the dial — minute wheel and hour wheel — that reduces the minute hand's rotation 12:1 to drive the hour hand. The cannon pinion's friction fit on the centre arbor allows hand setting. Calendar and moonphase drives are usually taken from the hour wheel.
