Duplex escapement
A frictional-rest escapement with two sets of teeth on the escape wheel serving locking and impulse separately.
Explanation
Popular in the mid-nineteenth century, particularly in English and some American watches, the duplex gives good timekeeping when clean but stops readily if disturbed, since it has no true safety action.
