Côtes de Genève
Parallel striped decoration applied to bridges and plates in Swiss practice.
Explanation
Côtes de Genève (Geneva stripes) is the Swiss finish of parallel striped bands applied to bridges and plates, traditionally with an abrasive-covered wheel. It is the Swiss counterpart to American damaskeening and a marker of finished quality, though it is now also applied industrially. On fine work the stripes align across adjacent bridges.
