Tuning-fork movement

An electromechanical movement regulated by a vibrating metal tuning fork rather than a balance or quartz crystal.

Explanation

Commercialised by Bulova as Accutron from 1960, the fork vibrates at 360 Hz and drives an index wheel through a pawl, offering higher accuracy than balance-wheel watches before quartz became dominant.
