Lift angle

The angle through which the balance turns while receiving impulse from the escapement.

Explanation

Lift angle is a design constant of a given escapement geometry, needed by timing machines to convert measured beat error and rate signals into correct amplitude readings; using the wrong lift angle setting gives a false amplitude figure.
