Flyback (chronograph)

A chronograph function allowing the running seconds hand to reset and restart in a single action.

Explanation

A flyback (retour en vol) chronograph lets the user reset and restart timing with one push of the reset button while the chronograph is running, instead of stop–reset–start. It was developed for aviation and other uses where successive intervals must be timed quickly. Flyback mechanisms add stresses to the chronograph levers; repeated use on worn parts can damage them.

In the object catalogue

Catalogued objects whose own source record mentions “Flyback (chronograph)”. The quoted line shows where; it is the seller’s or museum’s wording, not independent verification.
