Chronograph

A watch mechanism adding start, stop and reset timing functions to ordinary timekeeping.

Explanation

Column-wheel chronographs use a stepped wheel to sequence the functions; cam-operated (lever) chronographs are cheaper to produce and were common in mid-twentieth-century volume production.
