Depthing

How deeply a pinion and wheel, or pallet and escape tooth, engage each other.

Explanation

Correct depthing gives smooth transmission without excessive friction or risk of butting. Depthing faults follow from worn pivots, distorted plates, replaced parts of the wrong module and past bushing work carried out out of line.
