Constant-force mechanism

A device delivering the escapement a steady torque regardless of the mainspring's state of wind.

Explanation

Historically achieved by the fusee or by remontoire trains that are periodically rewound by the going train; more recent designs use flexible blades or fusée-free mechanical linkages for the same purpose.
