All-or-nothing piece

A safety component in repeating watches ensuring the striking train either runs a complete cycle or does not start at all.

Explanation

Prevents an incomplete or garbled chime if the slide is only partially operated or released early, by blocking the train from starting until it is certain to be able to finish.
