Object description

Case and Dial

The watch is housed in a 42mm stainless steel case finished with a black PVD coating. The auction description reports that the casing shows minimal marks sustained during long-term storage. The black dial features three sub-dials and a day/date window positioned at the three o'clock marker.

Orange hands are used for the central seconds and the hours counter sub-dial. The luminous material on the indices has developed patina consistent with age. A tachymeter scale is printed along the outer edge of the dial.

Evidence for this section
  • “The 42mm case is in pretty much perfect condition, with the PVD coating showing only the minimum marks as a result of storage over the years.”
  • “The black dial features three sub dials and also two cool orange hands”
  • “The tritium lume has taken on a nice patina over the years.”

Movement and Functionality

The timepiece is driven by a Lemania 5100 movement. The seller notes that the watch is functioning, but recommends that a potential owner undertake a service if they intend to use it for daily timekeeping.

The seller elected not to open the case back, maintaining the watch's internal state as it was received, as part of its presentation as a preserved, untouched item.

Evidence for this section
  • “The watch is running fine, but for everyday wear a service might be recommended.”
  • “As this watch is in completely untouched condition, we have decided to not even open this time capsule.”
  • “Lemania 5100 movement”

Provenance and Design

The design of the watch was developed with the participation of Ferdinand Porsche, intended to reflect the aesthetic of Porsche 911 instrumentation.

The watch is offered as an untouched specimen, supported by the presence of the original hangtag, and includes a handmade leather pouch.

Evidence for this section
  • “Ferdinand Porsche was personally involved in the design of this watch.”
  • “The black dial with red and white hands reminds us of the speedometer and tachometer design of the old Porsche 911.”
  • “These watches were featured in Top Gun”

Open research questions

  • Does the internal movement serial correspond to the 1970s manufacturing range as suggested by the case serial?
  • Can the specific production year be narrowed down beyond the 1970s estimate?
