Luminous paint (radium)

Radioactive luminous compounds applied to dials and hands from the early twentieth century.

Explanation

Radium-based lume causes the characteristic aged cream or brown patina seen on many dials and remains mildly radioactive; handling old dials should follow basic hygiene precautions, though risk from an intact dial is generally low.
