Hacking mechanism (seconds stop)

A mechanism that stops the balance when the crown is pulled to set the hands, allowing precise time synchronisation.

Explanation

A lever contacts the balance rim or stud when the stem is in the setting position; widely specified for military and pilot's watches so time can be set to the second against a reference signal.
