Établissage

The distributed Swiss system of production in which specialist firms supply components later assembled and finished by others.

Explanation

Établissage let small firms specialise deeply — in escapements, in dials, in cases — without any one firm needing to master every stage of production, a structural contrast with vertically integrated American factories.
