Dust Cover (Cuvette)

How it works

It is frequently engraved with maker's details, case numbers, or servicing marks made by watchmakers over the watch's working life, making it a useful secondary source of provenance information.

Common in quality pocket watch cases historically; largely absent from modern wristwatches, where a single case back typically suffices given tighter tolerances and gasket sealing.
